Hal. away poorly on the inside, closed up rapidly and drew out when straightened for home, but succumbed finally under a weak finish. Requite finished close hp after making up a lot of ground in the last half. Wild Star ran forwardly for five furlongs and tired. Alex Grant finished well. Laura Clay set the early pace, but tired badly in the last furlong. The winner was entered for ,000; no bid. Blue Pigeon was injudiciously sent out to make the early running and dropped out on the far turn, then came again and ran a good race. Chapnltepec, well up In the early running, dial lenged the leader menacingly when beginning tlie final quarter, but could never get up and dropped Into an easy second finally. King James, badly outpaced in the early running, finished remarkably well. Monopolist was outpaced throughout and never dangerous and was under the whip through the last half. C. W. Burt trailed far in tlie rear, but finished well. Besom quit very badly after a strenuous early effort to keep pace with the winner, was in deep going, however, and probably disliked it. Frank Gill, after being skillfully and patiently waited with in behind Zambesis comparatively slow pace, forged into the lead on tlie last turn, but succumbed eventually to the winners irresistible stretcli challenge and was a game second. Salvidere broke in the lead, but" was taken back and was forced into tlie inside in bad going, ran well up until tlie real racing began on the far turn and then dropped out. Zambesi made the running 011 sufferance for a mile and a. ouarter and then retired. Blue Book, on the inside in -close quarters in tlie early running, zigzagged the course on the far turn to find an opening, finished with a 1 elated stretch rush and just failed to get up. Oninbrinus helped to make tlie pace and succumbed after going six lurlongs. hut was a game third. Andrew Mack, away badly, trailed for the first half, then closed up rapidly into a fast going fourth. Vaquero loomed up on the far turn and tired in the closing drive. Troublemaker, after fast pacouiaking for nearly five furlongs, tired badly in the stretch. Lady Vincent was well up in the early running, hut was pocketed and generally mishandled. Savahle, never dangerous, dropped out on tlie far turn.
