HAYES BIand DAY AT LATONIA. WINS THE CINCINNATI HOTEL SPRING HANDICAP AND TWO PURSES. Meeting Closes with Fine Weather and a Big Crowd Bookmakers Fred Cook and A, Fontelieu Are Heavy Winners. Cincinnati, O., July 13. This, the last day ot the Latonia Jockey Clubs spring meeting, will go down in turf history as "Hayes day." The Kcn-tuckian scored a triple that was costly to the layers. He won the Cincinnati notel Spring Handicap, which featured the card, with Rcdgauntlet; took the second with Hollow, and the fifth with Colonel Bob, which repeated brilliantly over his, performance of the day before. In addition to this Mr. Hayes has an interest in Trincess Orna, which carried the colors of II. P. Ileadley to victory in the last race. The fine weather and the good program, together with the knowledge that there is to be no more racing in these parts until October, attracted one of the largest crowds of the meeting. The seven scrambles for get-away purses afforded highly entertaining sport. Rcdgauntlet was in the handicap lightly, but he is wind broken and has been tiring so badly" in his recent races that his ability to go a considerable route was doubted. The drying out track, as well as the weight, suited him and he had no ditliculiy in leading the others from start to finish. Old Honesty was a keen conteder, closing a considerable gap around the upper turn, but he quit at the end of a mile. The Minks made a gallant effort through the last quarter, but was next the inner rail where the going was deepest.
