Commodore Fontaine was iu close attendance on the pacemaker for over a mile, then went to the front at the half and gamely held sway to the end. Delcanta made the running until joined by Commodore Fontaine, when be blundered at the next jump and could never get up afterwards. Palm fenced in slovenly fashion at iirst and, being handicapped by the slow early pace, was unequal to sprinting with the other two when the real racing began. Grandpa fell at the second jump when in the lead. Suffrage, troni a good start, was reserved in striking distance pursuit of the pacemaker to the stretch, where sh.? drew out and made good in decisive fashion. Rapid AValer, away poorly, rapidly closed an immense gap into a fast going second and ran a remarkable race. Halifax outbroke the others and set a fast pace for a half mile, then tired badly and was lucky to save third place. Colonel White was lucky at the start and ran in early forward contention, dropped back in the stretch and then came again with a belated rush under a bad ride. Don Enrique ran prominently to the stretch, where lie tired. Prince Hamburg got away poorly and Slowly improved his position, but ran a bad race. Altuda was prominent for live furlongs. Nimbus, always iu nearest pursuit of the winner, .tired finally and was driving to save second place. Adriaha, seemingly outpaced early, finished with a belated stretch rush. Magazine tired after early strenuous pursuit of the leaders, showed much speed, but was overweighted. Zlephen ran well up to the stretch, where he was eased up when beaten. Peter Pan broke badly in the middle of the lleld and was hemmed In the first furlong, improved his position gradually on the outside and got Into striking distance of the leaders on the backstrctch, commenced to overhaul the leaders slowly, bat surely, and got up finally under the whip. McCartcr made the running by clear daylight and was going well in hand for a mile and an eighth, but succumbed in the last stride of a terrific effort. Montgomery developed brilliant speed and, after going a half, was in nearest pursuit of the pacemaker, seemed promising on the last turn, but fell back when Peter Pan challenged him, then came again very fast, but could not quite get up. Dandelion suffered at the start :uid was in close quarters for nearly a mile and closed up in the last quarter into a fast going fourth. Miss Crawford steadily improved her position and finished close np in a cracking effort. Cottontown held forth in the rear, hemmed in and unable to get clear sailiug until too late, then came very fast. First Premium, nearly left, had no chance at the start. Fountainblue got away very badly and ran on the outside throughout and was pulled up frequently, had no chance witli the ride, but put up- a cracking effort. Coy Maid was prominent for seven furlongs and quit badly. Nealon loomed up at the half, but was crowded out and pulled up. Faust got away poorly and showed early speed. Martin Doyle retired early. Saylor got away poorly and was impeded on the first turn, probably moved up prematurely on the backstretch. and held sway to the last stride before succumbing. Golden West, away poorly, closed a big gap on the outside and finished a fast going third in a cracking effort. Mary F. had no mishaps, loomed up in the stretch, but tired finally and likes mud. Anneta Lady was on the inside and repeatedly pulling up and could not get up afterwards when clear. Tony Bonero got away poorly and closed up much ground. Herman retired after going a prominent six furlongs. Yorkist got away very badly. Cutter set the early pace, but quit after a sharp drive with the favorite. The winner was entered for 51.000; no bid. Requite, away llatfooted and hullled to the rear early, seemingly failed to get into his stride in the early running and loomed up menacingly in the stretch, but tired finally. Stylit established a good lead at the half, but tired badly in the stretch. Milford got away badly and made up ten lengths on the leaders and. is a good looker. Mont-elair showed early siced. but quit badly. Punch, nearly left, was gaining steadily. Hal had scant chance at the start. The winner was entered for 00; no bid.
