MEXICAN GOVERNMENT AIDS RACING. Appropriates 00,000 Which Will be Used as Prizes for an Annual Derby. Mexico City, July 30. It Is announced that a Mexican Derby, to be worth 0,000, will be run each year, beginning in 1010. The sum of 00,000 w.ill be given by the government for the purpose of improving the breed of horses in Mexico, and this amount will be divided into ten parts, so that a purse of 0,000 will he hung at each running or the race for ten years, after which further provision will be made. The first Derby will be run over the new track, which is to he built in Condesaon, the present grounds of the polo club. It is stated that the government is behind the move to establish the big race and to encourage the importation of thoroughbred mares in order to improve the general breed of horses. Lexington, Ky., July 30. L. Blum, of Mexico City, Mexico, arrived here last night to purchase American bred thoroughbreds to import to Mexico. While here last spring Mr. Blum purchased 200 thoroughbreds, many of them young mares.
