NOTES OF THE TURF. The poolrooms in West Covington, Ky., are still closed, Lily Langtry has abandoned "Mr. Jersey" as her noin de turf in England. .Tames R. Keenes yearlings from Castletou Stud are due at Sheepshead Bay this morning. The trials of the six men who wero arrested In the poolroom raid at Louisville will be held Saturday. AV. J. Young says he will ship his horses home to Lexington, Ky., at the close of the Saratoga meeting and devote his time -during the fall to breaking his yearlings. .Terry Taylor lias sold to Dillard Hill the throe-ycar-old filly Helen Virginia, by Seinpronius Sarno.-She will be raced at. Atlanta and other southern tracks during the fall. George Dennison, a western rider ot fair skill, was thrown while galloping a horse at Saratoga Monday morning and badly shaken up. He will be in the hospital for several days. The sale of Uncle by John E. Madden to S. C. Hildreth brings to mind the fact that The Niece Uncles dam, died last spring, leaving a colt by Tanzmzcister, which is being raised at Race-land Stud on cows milk. A trainer in Ireland wrote a letter to the official handicappe.r complaining of the weights that had been allotted his horses. The handicapper turned the letter over to the stewards of the Turf Club, who fined the trainer 5. The policing of the Empire City track during the eighteen days meeting will be in charge of Charles M. McManus, a former New York detective sergeant, and George Milburii, recently of the United States Secret Service. Forty-two yearlings, the propertv of J. E. Madden, I R. Hitchcock, Thomas Hitchcock. Jr., M. II. Ticlienor ,fc Co. and II. S. Page, will be sold at Saratoga August 15. The yearlings from Avon-dale and Edenwold Studs In Tennessee will lie sold at the Spa August 17. The next sales will be held at Sheepshead Bay beginning August SI.
