OVATION FOR DANNY MAHER. At Sandown Park, London, August Danny SLi-her, the American jockey, rode three winners and a third out of four mounts, and was given an ovation. He landed the August Three-year-old Handicap on Drusus, the Lammas Stakes on Venilia, for Lord Derby, his regular employer, and the Lubbock Handicap on Love Song. Of the Americans riding the Sporting Life says: "Slaiier was superlatively excellent In his handling of Venilia, who was entirely indebted to him for her success in the Lammas Stakes at Sandown yesterday. When approaching tin; turn he was none too well placed, but, sending Venilia out In a widis sweep, he established in twenty strides sufficient advantage to enable him to cross to the rails, and from this position he was able to fight off Acclaim at the finish. It was a pretty piece of jockeyship, and it did not lack appreciation."
