BLUE BOOK TAKES REAPERS STAKES. Lawrence P. Daley Wins Dash Stakes Surprises at Shccpshead Bay. New York, September 5. This was another day of surprises at S!ieop.?head Hay ami the biggest came with the running of the historic Reapers Stakes for three-year-olds at one mile and three-sixteenths, which, with the Dash Stakes for two-year-olds at llve-eiglitiis of a mile, featured the card. The heavy state of the track caused the withdrawal of Pnutnonok. Montgomery. Fountaiiiblue and Tcmaceo, leaving Smiling Tom, Littleton Maid and Faust. At the last moment J. F. Carroll added Hluc Hook, and had the satisfaction of seeing him win the Reapers Stakes by ten lengths at the lucrative odds of -0 to 1. Faust, the favorite, was second live lengths In front of Smiling Tom. the heavily hacked Littleton Maid, unable to run in the stiff going, a trailing last. On such a track as that of today Hlue Hook must henceforth be given serious consideration in any company. Fred Cooks Lawrence P. Daley scored his third successive victory in the Dash Stakes. Fond Heart and SMHiuer were the only other starters. Spooner was considered a certainty, and was backed from 1 to 2 to 7 to 20. Lawrence P. Daley, however, killed him off early and he could not even save second place from Fond Heart. Mr. McCann. the favorite, running in the colors of K. R. Thomas for the lirst time, scored an easy victory in the steeplechase. K oat or. at odds-on. won the mile race Avltli alUeSise: Toiirohite won the race on the grass after a drive with Wcllxiurne. and the good colt. Running Account, well backed, defeated the favorite, Mark Antony II.. for the closing race after a spirited stretch struggle.
