FAR WEST HAS A NARROW ESCAPE. New York, September 30. Far West had a narrow escape from permanent injury in last Thurs-davs Occidental Handicap, In which he finished, fifth. He was crowded into the fence opposite the half-mile post and one of his legs was gaehed so deeplv by a protruding snag an artery -was cut. The bav lost a quart of blood before John Miller could stop the hemorrhage caused by the cut. The horse is coining around all right again and will hardly more than halt in. bis training.
