FAR WEST HAS A NARROW ESCAPE. New York, September 30. Far West had a narrow escape from permanent injury in last Thurs-davs Occidental Handicap, In which he finished, fifth. He was crowded into the fence opposite the half-mile post and one of his legs was gaehed so deeplv by a protruding snag an artery -was cut.
