Paprika, well up for a mile, blundered badly at the Liverpool and was practically eliminated as a contender for first place thereafter. Stamina broke well and had outside clear sailing, closed up gradually and headed the leader on the last turn, then held sway to the end with plenty in reserve. Bouquet, from a llatfooted inside start, moved up rapidly, but was shullled back out of a good position on the last turn and came fast finally with a belated challenge. Meggs Hill, from a Hying start, made the running for a half mile, then earned third place in a gunie stretch drive. Julia Powel, seriously handicapped by the muddy track, ran a good race. Fancy developed superior early speed after getting away poorly, but failed to stay. Miss Norfolk was always outpaced, but finished well. Black Mary is too small to carry weight witli this kind. Martin Doyle, inadequately ridden, was kept in the" deepest Inside goiug, but gained rapidly In the last half nnd finished a surprisingly game second. Ampedo. also badly messed ajxnit and frequently pulling up, came tit the end with a tremeudous rush nnd would have been second in another stride; Old Honesty, in forward and very game contention throughout, ran si grand race. Malnchance, favored by the going, ran prominently and only succumbed for second place in the last couple of strides. Temaceo was never dangerous, but finished well and going too fasf. Brancas was sent along prominently from the start, drew out from the others on the backstretch and made the running and scored finally after a long, whipping finish. Lane Allen outbroke and outpaced the others for the first half, was then taken back and reserved in the middle running and failed to quite get up in a fast closing sprint. Lancastrian, displaying unexpectedly good form in "the muddy going; loomed up menacingly when beginning the last half and was a keen contender to the last fifty yards and thtn tired badly. Lally closed up rapidly in the last half and challenged the leaders seriously midway of the-rtretch, but tired In the deep inside going at the erfd. J. F. Donohue steadily improved his position in the closing six furlongs and ran a good race. Killiecrankie failed unexpectedly to stay. Tipping seemingly was handicapped by the going.
