TWO WALKOVERS FOR MAHER. An event without precedence in racing turned up at the Manchester, England, meeting, September 20, the first two races on the card, the Swinton Plate and the Friday Plate, being walked over for by Persians and Kearsage respectively. Danny Maher rode both and thus got credit for two winners. Maher is more popular than ever in England and scarcely a day passes without a complimentary notice about him in the racing news. One writer, in speaking of a recent win by Maher, says: "Maher waited until the last moment, then scored, without allowing us to know whether he had a lot in hand or not. What a puzzling professor he is in this way."
