RACE FOR THE ARMY MEN. Washington, D. C, November 23. The race for cavalrymen and artillerymen of the United States Army, which will be run on the Washington Jockey Club course next Friday under the auspices of the Jockey Club, lias already received twenty-four entries and the conditions of the race are as follows: Purse 1907.sh00 and enp; for horses belonging to troops and batteries of U. S. Cavalry and U. S. Field Artillery serving in the departments of the East and of the Gulf; to be ridden by enlisted men of these organizations; $."0 to the rider of the winner; 00 to the troop or battery fund of the winner; 00 to the ahtlctie fund of the post of the winner; 5 to the rider of the second horse; 0 to the rider of the third horse; 0 to the troop or battery fund of the third horse. The cup Is to be inscribed with the name of the winner, the name and rank of his rider, his troop or battery for one year, when it shall again be competed for, and to become the property of the troop or battery which shall win it for three years, not necessarily consecutive. Riders to wear olive drab service uniform with cap, and horses to be equipped with regulation saddle and bridles. Catch weights. Six furlongs on the flat. Entries, giving name of horse, his troop or battery and regiment, will be limited to one horse from each troop or battery and to one horse from the non-commissioned staff and band of each of the regiments of cavalry and field artillery whose headquarters are serving in the two departments, aud will be submitted by the organization commander to the secretary of the Washington Jockey Club, Benning, D. C, not later than 5 p. m., November 2S, 1007. Major Cassatt has written the Benning management the following letter on the subject: "I have been authorized to say to you that your kind offer lias been accepted by the war department. "The organizations specified in the conditions are Twelfth Cavalry, twelve troops and band; Thirteenth Cavalry, four troops and band; Fifteenth Cavalry, four troops; Third Field Artillery, two batteries. Making maximum of twenty-four entries. "The troops and batteries not serving at Fort Myer are ordered to ship the horses and riders they may select to Fort Myer, and in these circumstances I think you may count upon twenty-four entries and upon none of them being scratched."
