RACING DATES OF 1908 DISCUSSED. Stewards of the Jockey Club Fail to Arrive at a Decision. New York. December 24. The stewards of the Jockey Club held a meeting at the Windsor Arcade this afternoon aud the date question was discussed at length. It was a stormy meeting and by no means harmonious. Present were August Belmont, chairman, and Messrs. Keene. Knapp, Sturgis and Miller. Of the two absent stewards, F. R. Hitchcock is in Tennessee at II. B. Duryeas hunting place, nickory Valley, and J. H. Bradford tele- pliohed lie was not well enough to appear. Phil J. Dwyer, though not a Jockey Club steward, was called into the meeting. This gathering of the stewards followed the recent discussion of dates by the several racing associations, and, from what could be learned, the schedules proposed at that time were the subject of discussion today. August Belmont hurried away alont after the meeting had adjourned. Andrew Miller replied to a question that the dates had been discussed but nothing had been decided. He said another meeting would be held January 3. Nothing else was given out. It is plain that when it comes to the actual cutting off of days from their previous date schedule none of the associations is anxious to give up, but the impression prevails Empire City will race in August and that Sheepsuead Bay may have to lose a few of its valuable early fall dates. W. K. Vanderbllt has his eye on the Epsom Derby for 190S, and, according to "a horseman recently returned from Franco, has a royal chance to win with a hay colt called Sea Sick II., by Elf Saf-Saf. This colt was nominated by M, Gaston Dreyfus, and is highly thought of. He is also in the Grand Prix.
