Jane Swift forced Harvel along at a sizzling pace for the first half, then shook him off and held the race safe. Laudable made up ground gradually all of the last quarter and, under sharp urging, nipped out the tiring Harvel. The latter showed the most early speed and finished gamely under the whip next to the inside rail, but tired palpably and the race should improve him. Smirker finished like a shot. Booger Red Is not ready and can do much better. Miss Fairbanks showed speed, but quit badly. The winner was entered for ; no bid. Avontellus trailed within striking distance for the first six furlongs, then steadily moved up and, coming through fast in the stretch, easily wore down Elie in the final sixteenth. The latter showed abundant speed and set the pace nearly all the way, but tired in the final drive. Cork Hill, after a rough trip for the first seven furlongs, made up ground gradually in the final quarter and finished gamely under the whip. Henry O. also finished well. Rip Rap.ran moderately well. Interlude showed brilliant speed for four and a half fur-lougs, but tired badly in the last sixteenth. Bryan ran an unaccountably dull race. Governor Orman, in a long stretch drive, finished resolutely, ran in suddenly improved form and put up a good race. Escamada ran well, but was used up in following the winner and had little left at the end. Orilene, all tangled up at the start, never got clear until an eighth out, then came with a belated rush, can heat these horses easily and her race should be thrown out. Kirkfield Belle, in a long stretch drive finished fast and resolutely. Daisy Frost fell away when an eighth out. Red Bill ran into the fence when turning for home and injured himself. Don Hart ran a good race and bears watching. The winner was entered for 00; no bid.
