HILDRETH HORSES AT SANTA ANITA. Uncle Among Them Bookmakers Are Big Losers No Outlaws at Track. Los Angeles, Cal., December 24. That Sam Hil-dretli purposes to begin an active campaign here was made apparent today when two carloads of his horses arrived at Santa Anita Park. Among the number was his crack colt Uncle, which was worked live furlongs over the track in 1:05 after the first race. With the high-class horses he brought here and Dugan in the saddle, Ilildreth is almostcertaln to displace R. F. Carman as public favorite, and the keen rivalry that is. sure to take place between the two easterners should produce some high-class sport. Horsemen were notified here today that the entire stable of C. E. Durnell will be sold next Friday in the paddock at Oakland, the sale commencing at 11. -"0 oclock. The public is giving the hooks no respite, following up its successful play of the last two days with another good afternoon. A number of the twenty-one pencilers doing business have been hit hard since the last cut-in and it is confidently expected that a few will fail to answer roll call tomorrow. Public form is being well conserved and the close students that follow it are doing well. The Jamestown incident is causing a ludicrous mix-up here, as a number of horses under the ban have never raced east of the Mississippi. The blame is put on Sheridan Clark, who was secretary of the Jamestown meeting. It is said he padded out his programs with the names of horses that were not on the ground. Holiday distractions had no effect on tiie attendance today, which was as large as usual. A record-breaking crowd is -expected tomorrow. Red Bill ran into the fence in the last race, slightly injuring himself.
