President Williams Discloses a Good Two- Year-Old Colt in Apto Oro — Gemmell Runs a Bad Race. Oakland. CaL, January 4. — Another rich Oakland stake was annexed today by an Arcadia prepared racer. Thai time it was Magazine, which proceded to emulate his stable companion and hero of the New Ycai Handicap. Arimo. by scoring a brilliant and convincing victory in the Follansboe Handicap from a band of eight of the best horses in local training. This splendid pair of turf performers came trom tic big R. At the close only 6 to 5 was obtainable aliout the three year-old. di spite the heavy support accorded the other starters. In the actual running the favorite drew out in the first couple of strides and literally spreadeagled his opponents. Nothing ever got Bear enoiign to Magazine to menace his lead and at the end he won pulled up from the lightly weighted Mandator, with Miller up. Barney Sehreibers Dents -bland finished a Iieaten off third. The public, who long ago began to take the Arcadia-prepared candidates seriously, won on the result and the cheering from the 10.MMJ spectators increased in volume as the race progressed until at the thii-h. with the. favorite jiuUiug up far in trout of his opponents, the applause was deafening.
