OWriERS WINNING ,000 OR MORE. In the record of its winning owners, 1907 will long remain a memorable year, because of the re niarkable and unprecedented success of James R. Keeue. This sagacious and fortunate man has long figured in the first rank of American owners and has more than once before headed the list of winners, but this year It was his singular distinction to break all records of money winning on the turf of this and all other lands. Previously the Onke of Portland had enjoyed this renown. In Colin Mr. Keeue bud a grand two-year-old, some well qualified judges pronouncing him the l est two-year-old ever raced in America. In Peter Pan and Ballot he had two superb three-year-olds. It was marvelous good fortune to ] ossess three such stars in one year and all heavily engaged in the richest stake; of that year. This illustrious trio won 81.-377 fir him. Colin won twelve r,aces without a defeat, including such great stakes as the National Stallion, Great Trial, Saratoga Special, Futurity, Matro.i and Brighton Produce Stakes. Peter Pan swept off such rich prizes as the Tidal and Belmont Stakes. Brooklyn Derby and Brighton Handi-i-np anC among Ballots triumphs were the Century Stakes. Great Republic Stakes, Invincible Handicap and First Special. Outside of this great three were Court Dress, Zambesi. Celt. Suffrage, Ca-Ixx-iion, Frizette, Crimaldi, Meggs Hill, Resti-£ouclitt mid other utstt-footed contributors to the " extraordinary total to the credit of Mr. Keene. Harry Payne Whitney was third to Mr. Keenes s first iu 1906 and went into second place in 1907 7 with a total that in other years would have sufficed ,1 ■ to place him in the lead. His stable winnings s were 7,775 in 1900. while in 1907 they mounted d up to such handsome figures as 37,694. Diuna „ Ken, Stamina, Baby Wolf and Bar None were his s best winners and Stamina was probably the beet ,t two-year-old filly of the year, although admirers s of Notasulga might have a word to say on that it point. The second half of the Double Kveut. Matron 1. . Stakes for fillies and Produce Stakes for fillies " were Staminas principal successes, while the ic Lawrence Realization was the richest event that it I ell prey to Diuna Kens speed and endurance. The Newcastle Stable climbed up from sixth h plaee in 1906 to third in 1907, but won less money. • That honest-running three-year-old, McCarter, was 1S the stables best winner, contributing 1,180 of its ts aggregate of 1,892. Running Water, Spooner, r Saraciuesca and Explosion were all satisfactory winners. *■ J. L. McOinnls was fourth In the list and but „ a few dollars behind the Newcastle Stable, with a a total ot 1,830. of which Frank Gill won 9,121. 1. This colt was one of the real stars of the stable, . e fleet, staying, courageous and a weight carrier of jf high degree. Of other fortunate owners T. August Belmont won 8,160 in 1907 and 9,390 in T T. 1906, about holding his own. J. B. Brady won O. K 3,040 in 1906, and did not get into the big list q J. at all this year. A A.
