In their highest class, the horses of 1907 were a glorious band. Especially great were the three-year-olds. After the early retirement of Burgomaster in 1906. Accountant reigned the unquestioned champion three-year-old of that year. Had he arrived one year later he would have been outclassed and held safe by not one only, but by a number of the remarkably good three-year-olds of 1907. Peter Pan, Ballot, Frank Gill. Charles Edward, Montgomery, Salvidere and Dinna Ken were all better and Superman and McCarter fully as good. The supremacy and high-class of the three-year-olds were fully demonstrated by the fact that they curried off in cosnpetition with the older horses of the year such jcreat races as the Brooklyn Handicap, Advance Stakes. Annual Champion Stakes. Brookdale Handicap. Brighton Mile, Brighton Handicap. Brighton Cup, Cosmopolitan Handicap. Commonwealth Handicap, Century Stakes. First Special, Great Republic Stakes, Saratoga Handicap, Jockey Club Weignt-for-Age Race, Second Special and many events of lesser value. We should see some grand four-year-olds in competition in 1908. Another outstanding feature of the year was the advent and career* of the unbeaten two-year-old, Colin. There was bo argument as to the two-year-old championship of the year. A number of exceedingly licet two-yeaar-olds were in action, but Colin was in a class by himself, truly a first-class race horse. Twelve times did he start and twelve times did he win, one purse and eleven stake races falling to his supeulative speed. Aside from Colin, such good ones a» Uncle, Stamina, Jim Gaffney, Cohort, Fair Play* Chapultepec, Meelick, King James, Notasnlga, Firestone, Lady Winifred. Meggs Hill, Julia Powel, Ear None. Spooner, Johnnie. Blake, Magazine, Lawrence P. Daley, Faleada, Old Time, Colonel Bob, Royal Tourist, Mollie Montrose and others won distinction and were good enough to shed luster ou the racing of any ordinary year. Among the older horses, Nealon proved best aud, as the winner of tlw Suburban Handicap, Twin City Handicap. Municipj 1 Handicap and other great events, amply established his right to be considered a high-class racer. Others of this division that ran in fine form were Glorifier, Dr. Gardner, Dandelion, Grapple, Roseben, Brookdale Nymph, Flip Flap, Running Water and Rapid Water. The champion sprinter, Roseben, showed that in short dashes his peerless speed remained undiminished, but an un-I fortunate accident sent him into retirement at the beginning of that time of the year when be had always been at his best and almost cost his life. Of the winning horses 205 won ,000 or niore, their total winnings footing up ,190,240. The winners of smaller sums numbered 2,979 and the aggregate amount wou by them was ,912,033.
