NOTES OF THE TURF. Ex-jockey Charles Vandnsen. who went to Los Angeies last October for the benefit of his health, is reported to be in very poor condition. It is reported that J. O. Keene has been offered a yearly retainer of 5,000 to take charge as traiuer of one of the largest eastern stables. He refused, the report says, to entertain the offer. Louis Stuart has seven head of horses in his stable at Sheepshead Bay which he is training for L. 0. Appleby. They are six two-year-olds, four colts and two fillies and the five-year-old horse. Sadler. The two-year-olds are all of Applebys own breeding at his Silverbrook Farm near Eatontown. N. J. Law:vnce and Comstock have retired their stallion. The Fog. a chestnut horse by Magnet — Tenebrae, to their stock farm in Placer County, Cal.. after three starts at Santa Anita Park. The Fog, which is eight j ears old. on the day of his last start, had a lilly by him out of La Hindos as a starter in the two-year-old race.
