Preparatory to establishing himself as au English racing man. Harry Payne Whitney will sell the better part of his racing stable at public auction at Sheepshead Bay, next Tuesday. Tuesday will be an off day In racing. The Westchester fall session -will bo inaugurated at Belmont Park on Monday, after which there will be a lapse until Wednesday. When Mr. Whitney, whp got back from his vacation In Europe last Saturday, notified . William L. Few horsemen will be at Belmont Park on an off day. but many stable in the neighborhood of Gravesend and: Sheepshead and they can easily get to the Bay. With the Whitney horses Herman B. Durvea. who has established a stud in France, will nave a" clearing of racers. Mr. Duryea will, it is said, offer practically everyUiing in his establishment except Mediant and Running Water and a couple of other mares which are destined for stud service. Ben Ban. a recent winner, will be offered in the . Durvea consignment. Mr. Whitney has not decided what horses he will take to England, but it is probable that the two-year-olds. Bobbin. Perseus. Hillside aud Sea Cliff, will be among the number. -His other horses, with the exception of a few well-bred mares intended for Brookdale. are to go. Jack Joyncr is training many horses valuable to lersons desiring to get winter stables together. Among the best are Burgher. Royal Tohrist. County I Fair. Xebec. Duke of Roanoke.. Blackford. Delirium, J Sandpiper, Westbury and Yorkville Beau. These are winners, and lesldes them there will be some promis- 1 Jug l wo-vear-olds. j Xext Tuesday will be the first big sale of Whit- ney horses since the late William C. Whitney took 1 up the sport in 1M90. Young Whitney will, it is said, continue to maintain Brookdale Farm, but his friends do not expect after this season to see his I colors in this country for some years to come. The young man has not taken anything like the i interest iu the sport his father manifested. He is I in Europe most of the year. During the present 1 rlsis in racing affairs he has been abroad.
