PERSONAL LIBERTY LEAGUE WORK. New York. October 1. The Personal Liberty League has about completed arrangements for its extensive campaign throughout the state. Mass meetings will be held in many cities. Prominent speakers will be heard in all the cities of the state, and representatives of the league will effect permanent organizations in each city. Colonel Franklin Bartlett. president of the league, in expected from Europe this week, and following his arrival there will be an important conference at league headquarters. 220 Broadway. New York City. t which will be gathered the representatives of branch leagues at Buffalo, Utiea. Saratoga, Albany and other points throughout the state. At this conference the final details of the campaign will be . completed and perfected. Followiug the state campaign the league proposes I to wind up with a great mass meeting in New York City and another In Brooklyn, with perhaps a groat parade which tre league believes should be triven in order that the strength of the liberal element among the citizens may be deinoristri- Pd. It is the aim of the league to make this parade the greatest demonstration of a non-political character ever seen in this city. I At tre conference following Colonel Bartletts re-! turn will also be decided the leagues policy regarding the indorsement of candidates known to be favorable to the cause of personal libortv. While the league will indorse liberal-minded candidates, it will also work for the defeat of such candidates as are known to be narrow and intolerant in their views. The league will take no part in the national campaign. The league declines to advise the Indorsement of either candidates on the national tickets and will leave members to vote as they please In this respect. Many appeals have come to the league from New Jersey for the establishment of a league in that state. This matter is Impossible at this time, but as soon as the campaign in this state is completed Now Jerscey will be completely organized and placet! In sound standing. Several thousand applications for membership trom all parts or New Jersey are Already tiled away at league headquarters. It will be the aim of the league to perfect the New Jersey i organization so that it may enter the national organization to be effected this winter.
