Progress showed dazzling speed for seven furlongs and displayed great ganieness under the whip in the closin;; strides, but was not good enough. Animus closed a gap, hut swerved badly in the final sixteenth, but for which he would have been hard to beat, as he finished fast under the whip. C. Widrigs closing effort. The latter, in close quarters when entering the stretch, got clear an eighth out and. finishing with a belated rush, was fast wearing the winner down. Orlfiamb rushed through close quarters on the far turn, but swung wide when turning for home and lost ground, then fin ished well under the whip.
