TEXAS RACING PROFITABLY CONDUCTED. A well-known Pinkerlon detective who lias been attending the race meetings in Texas for the last six weeks says: "Texas is the spot and one can t sav too much in praise of the way the sport is conducted there. The attendance has been line at all points, the bookmakers have been numerous and the tracks have all made money. A new mile track will lie built at Houston, which had a very profitable meeting, averaging seventeen hooks, and gate receipts from ,000 to ,100 a day. Waco had a good meeting and is a fixture for the future. The fact that San Antonio is going to hold a niueteen-days meeting after the meeting at Beaumont may hurt the Havana racing a bit. as many horses were expected to go from Texas to Cuba, hut they will remain in the Lone Star State now. and it. looks as if they will lie able to go right ou to Hot Springs after San Antonio closes. The only danger is that the thing may be overdone, but the danger from that source is not great, as the Texas breeders have the snort under control and are not soing to let it get away."
