SANTA ANITA TRACK IMPROVES. Fast Time Recorded in Most of the Races and but Two Favorites Score. Los Angeles, Cal., November 27. Moderating weather drew out a much larger attendance today than usually follows a holidays crowd. The card, while not boasting a stake nice, was well balanced throughout and in several races was productive ot exciting finishes. Most interest centered in the see ond race, in which the old handicap horse. Proper, was scheduled to start. .lust before the race W. Jennings parted with hint to II. it. ISrandt for a reputed price of ,500. The old warrior ran in a contending position for the first six furlongs, but fell awav fast when the hard racing came. In case be trains on the race should about put him ou edge for a good showing when next he faces the barrier. Canique sprung a surprise party in the second race bv winning at 20 to 1. heing thoroughly overlooked in the betting. The gelding came with a great rush at the did and overwhelmed Progress. Onlv two favorites were successful and the books had a profitable dav. .Tockev Aubuchou was scheduled to ride Madeline Musgrave in the first race, but before taking the mount it was discovered he was in bad standing at Oakland, and his place was taken hv J. Howard. The track will be in tip-top condition tomorrow and some fast time may be reasonably expected. The betting is somewhat light at present, but is sure to pick up in the next week or so.
