ASK GOVERNOR TO CALL SPECIAL SESSION. New Orleans, La., December 19. The effort of the business and commercial interests of New Orleans to seciue either a repeal or a modification of the stringent Locke anti-gambling law, took definite shape today and the petition, which has been signed by almost every commercial interest in the Canal Street district, will be carried to Baton Rouge and laid before Governor Sanders, with the appeal that he call an extra session of the legislature to modify the racing law. Todavs developments emphasised the desire In this city among business men to have the Locke law changed. They say the city is feeling the eradication of racing very keenly. The hotels, restaurants and business houses are running far short in receipts of this time last year and every other year when the races came with the advent of Thanks- SiGovernor Sanders has refused to discuss this latest phase of the racing fight until it has come up to him otliciallv. In discussing the -arrest of the promoters of the test race at City Park the other day be declared: "In my opinion the Locke law Is constitutional and the local authorities will enforce it." It. was reported tonight that already several thousand names had been secured to the petition for a modification of the law. It would cost 535.000 to call and hold a special session of the legislature and many question the wisdom of this expense. However, there has been talk of an extra session in early January to consider tax problems and the promoters of the racing repeal now hone to work the two together. Edward Corrigan. who has been charged along with President Heaslip with being a Jiiirty to the City Park test, has telegraphed the Hotel Grune-wald that he will arrive Monday. The arraignment of all parties to the fight will take place Monday morning.
