NO HOSTILE FRENCH RULE AGAINST ALIENS. The Paris correspondent of the London Sportsman says the announcement that the French Jockey Club had passed a rule refusing a license to a trainer or jockey who had not resided in France for a year or more prior to his application was never made and stamps it as a fish story, contrary to all Ideas of French hospitality and against all traditions of the various racing societies. He savs: "The fish stories are being manufactured on this side of the great dampness, and the Paris correspondents, with their English colleagues of an American sporting journal, have invented the sensational announcement that the French Jockey Club has declared that it would not grant a license to any trainer or jockey who had not been domiciled in France for a period of three years prior to his application. It seems strange that the official Calendar should make no mention of such a restriction. For some time past the Socictc dEn-couragement, confounded by those who ought to know better with the French Jockev Club, has published a report of each sitting and each deliberation in the Bulletin Otheiel which comes to us each week. It lias remained mute respecting the sensational announcement which conies as a surprise from the other side of the Atlantic, without reflecting any enormous amount of credit on its originators. Additional paragraphs have from time to time been incorporated in the Rules of Racing of the Societe dEncouragcment and of the Steeplechase Society, which have given stewards, as well as tiie respective race committees, jiower to grant or refuse a license to any trainer or jockey for the purpose of eliminating undesirable persons from following their doubtful avocations, but any such sweeping action as that suggested by the overwrought brain of a Paris corresondent would toe contrary to the ideas of French hospitality, as well as the traditions of the different societies."
