It has lieen suggested in some quarters that next year the admission fee to the local tracks should be raised from to . and the idea seems to be meeting with some favor. With a tariff the receipts undoubtedly would be greater, and for that reason the associations could afford to hang up fairly lilieral stakes and purses-. At present the legal advisers of the Jockev Club are passives, but it is said that after Xew Years many case will be tried in the courts- with the idea of finding out just what can be done in the wav of Speculation under the new law. The eases of John G. Cavanagh and others who were indicted bv the Kings County grand jury last summer and which have been postponed from time to time are scheduled to come up for a linal argument the second week in January. So far nolxidy arrested on the charge of violating tlve betting law has been tried, and the delay has caused a lot of comment.
