JOCKEYS DUEL WITH WHIPS LEE AND KIRSCHBAUM TREAT OAKLANDS PATRONS TO AN UNUSUAL SPECTACLE. Favorites Generally Defeated Weights Announced, for tho New Year Handicap witli Rcstigouche Top Weight. San Francisco, Cal., December 29. Race-goeM were treated to an unusual scene during the running of the last furlong of the fourth race at Oakland today. Instead of going about the business in hand jockeys J. ILee and Kirschbaunt on Bon Homme and Ocean Queen, the leaders, devoted their energies to plying the whip on one another witli rc suits disastrous for lKtth. as in addition, to betpg passed at the end and losing the race to Semproniuni. an outsider, which had stolen up unnoticed on the outside wlille the duel was going on. they were each fined0 by the stewards. This particular race was the feature of an otherwise mediocre card, composed principally of selling races. Six two-vear-olds of superior class took part and the running from first to last wits replete with interest and excitement. Bon Homme dominated the betting and carried it small fortune in wagers. His riders duarter-mile riding tactics proved his undoing and he dropped by tho wayside while his jockey was busily engaged in belalwriug his rival. The edifying spectacle evoked .a storm of hisses from the spectators. Jockey J. Butler was promptly fined 0 for foul riding on Colonel White in the fifth race and Upton for breaking from another than his rightful position at the post on Aks-Ar-lien. E. J. Ramsey and II. G. Bedwell iliolh put in claims for Colonel White after the fifth race. Ramsey got him for 25. Only two favorites were successful. The weather, gloomy and threatening, had a deterrent effect on the attendance, but the sixrt was satisfactory enough. The right name of the absconding cashier of the Sheepshead Bay Club Is William Woidner. He hails from Detroit. The California .Tockev CIuj paid all wagers on the Twilight Oueen race today.
