DEATH OF A GOOD HANDICAP HORSE. Peter Sterling, a one time good handicap horse and for the past two years the property of Edward Trotter, died M. inlay at Louisville. The horse, acquired by Trotter when he made his initial trip to California iu the fall of 1007. proved an iniprofit aide investment for that owner, evincing an inabiiitv to run well in the muddy going that marked the lieeisiou of the important stakes lor which Trotter pointed him at Oal land. When track conditions improved towards the close of the Oakland meeting, the horse fell sick and never afterwards recovered his good form. His last start was at Seattle, An gust 20. 1008. when he ran absolutely last in a race won by Green Seal. It was in the colors of A. Brown that leter Sterling ran his liest races.
