CORRIGANS REPLY IN GATES SUIT. Lexington. Ky.. May 20. — Edward Corrigan returned this morning from Chicago. Attorney John T. Shelby, acting for Mr. Corrigan. has filed a cross bill in answer 10 tlie suit recently ibroughl by John W. Gates. Mr. Corrigan In the cross bill admits that he made a note for sixty days for $."58,500 to Gates: that the money was used by Gates in buying for 1dm MB shares of stock of tin-New Orleans Jockey Club: that to further secure Gates lie gave him as collateral 100 more shares of the same stock: that he was required to pay a usurious rate of interest: that Gates took advantage of his illness in New Orleans and notified him on January 27 that the- stock would be sold February 1; that he was unable to have himself re pre - ■eated at the sale at that time: that he has onlv the statement of Gates that the stock was sold for the sum of ,418 and that this sum is not reason able value for the stock: that he does not know by whom or to whom the stock was sold by Gates: that he believes it was I ruse to deprive him of the stiwk and to force Dim to pay an extraordinary sum. He prays the court to order Gates to return the stock to him upon payment of 8,560 and the leial rate of interest, or to give him judgment against Gates for the par value of 485 shares, which would be 8,500.
