Stromeland was taken back early and saved until straightened out in the homestretch, then wore Occidental down and just managed to last long enough to stall off Desjierado. The latter fiulshed with a rush and would have won in another stride, although Deverich lost his whip fifty yards from the winning mark. Occidental, favored by the going, showed a fine turn of early speed, but tired iu the last sixteenth. Hands . Around was eased up at lie end. Grande Dame likes a fast track.
