Two of the Brooklyn Jockey Clubs oldest annual events, the Treuioiit Stakes and the Brooklyn Derby, which had their inaugural running with the first meeting of the club In 1S.H7. wen- the chief attractions. The juvenile race developed unexpectedly into a one -iib-d affair, with Waldo, despile a heavy impost of IfiP pounds, the dominant factor throughout. On the other hand the Derby, which on paper seemed a gift for Joe Madden, barely escaped resulting in -a fluke defeat for S. C. Hildreth* colt. The singularly running Fayette thrilled the Spectator* by disputing every foot of the long mile and a half journey with the favorite. While the race signally enhanced layettes reputation as a race horse, it was universally conceded that had the race been truly tub. with a normal pace. Joe Maddens margin of victory would have been appreciably greater. County Fair. the only oilier starter, made an abnormally slow-pace for a mile and an eighth. Then the raeV resolved itself into a three-furlongs sprint between the two choices to Hie finish. With an advantage of a length and a half and an earlier beginning Fayette just failed by a head of beating his rated rival.
