HAMILTON PATRONAGE BETTER THAN EVER. Attendance Exceeds Former Seasons — Disqualification and Run-Up Mark Yesterdays Racing. Hamilton. Out.. June 23. — Racing at Hamilton this afternoon was under showe-ry skies ami over a sloppy track. Keen contests pre-vailcd. liowi-ver. five of the events furnishing driving finishes, with the wiiine-rs in two races first home by the narrowest -of margins. As a matte-r of fact it was impossible to determine the winner of either of these races until the official placing was displayed by tin-judges. The sport was so good as to go a long way towards making amends for the disagreeable Climatic conditions. Besides the Hotel Royal Han dieap there were offeriMl as features a Heepleehase over the short course, a race on the turf track anel another e-ontest which called for Canadian-bred horses. Then were- only three starters in the lian dieap, but it developed into a stirring contest, in which the outsider of the trio. J.ihn K. McMillan. liea! the odds-eta favorite. Moipie-tte. by a nee k after a thrilling stretch drive. Moqaette had made the pace- until well into the streleli. The first ilisipialiti.-ation of the meeting, and likewise the first run-up. came with the sixth race, which went to William W.ilke-rs excellent mud runner. Bellwether. The latter won with almost ridiculous ease. The race had selling conditions and Bellwether was entered for ,000. L. C. Shobe. whose- Cloisteress finished second, boosted Bell Wether to .tilio. Walker protected the horse with the usual aelvanc-e of $•" Bad retained him at ,006. Sir Kdward. which finished third, was disqualified for crossing over in front of Hi.ie-ko at the sixtee-nth pale. The latter was e-ouiing strong at the time and might have be-aten out Sir Kdward. The stew arils evidently tcok this view of the matter, for they promptly allowed the claim of foul that Kennedy made. The attcnelanee was again large- and tlic management reports a big gain in patronage over last spring. The fact that I he club has mm -conflicting elates this year is regarded as responsible to some-degree for the; improvement in attendance. There are sfill some- conflicting elays on the circuit and for the convenience Of both horsemen and the followers of the sport, it is hoped that this too will be remedied.
