TRACK RECORDS BROKEN AT HAMILTON. Creel and Plaudmore Reduce Existing Marks Dr. Keith Disqualified Rulings Announced. Hamilton. Ont.. Julv 1. This was the banner day of the racing season in Hamilton. A tremendous gathering turned out to witness the sport, fully 5,000 coming from iioints outside the city. The Toronto special came in two sections, while fully 1,000 made the trip over from Buffalo. In the latter delegation were all of the otlicials of the Niagara Bacing Association, including John .Ilachmeister. J. II. Madigan, Kdward Mills, Judge Kerch and H. F. Brievogle. A splendid program had been provided by the club, the card comprising eight races. Besides the National Stakes, a steeplechase and two races over the turf course were promising features. Probably the best field that ever started In a race in Canada went to the post in the National Stakes. The race developed into a rousing contest with three horses lighting it out through the homestretch heads and necks apart. - Plaudmore proved the winner, but he bad to take a couple of seconds off the track record for the distance to win. The pace throughout was exceedingly fast, the first six furlongs being run in 1:12. the mile in l:38g and the mile and a furlong in 1:51!!. Plaudmore was ridden by young Chandler, son of Nick Chandler, the old-tinie steeplechase jockey. The steeplechase furnished a bit of rough riding. McAfee, who had the mount on Dr. Keith, did his best to run Essex II. into the wing going to the eighteenth fence. He had tlie latter beaten at the time and was foolish for not going on about his business. The claim of foul lodged by Patterson after Dr. Keith had finished first, was quickly allowed and the change in placing gave the race to Byzantine. Creel also reduced the track record for a mile and a sixteenth by two-fifths of a second when he ran the distance in 1 :1U in winning the second race. Bunnells showing in the steeplechase led to action on the part of the stewards. In todays race the horse lacked speed and was not a factor at any stage of the running. After the races the following ruling was issued by Judge Murphy: "To A. It. Loudon. Secretary. Hamilton Jockey Club The performances of the horses Pagan Bey and Baunell have been wholly unsatisfactory and you will kindly accept no further entries of any horse directly or indirectly under the care of W. G. Wilson." Another ruling in connection with todays steeplechase was also issued. It read: "For deliberately foul riding, jockey McAfee has been suspended for the meeting and we recommend to the Canadian Racing Associations that the suspension be continued for a period of thirty days." Before tlie opening dash Mode Nicoll made a great play at scratching his colt. Clem Beachey. Some one said that the colt was coughing and others had it that he was lame. When it came to the race, some oiii! wagered heavily on Clem Beachey and he ran a smashing good race and beat Setback In easy fashion. ...
