Clem Beachey, oft forwardly, followed the early pacemakers closely, came through on the Inside when entering the homestretch and, finishing fast, easily disposed of Love Watches. Setback was closer up than usual in the early running, but tired in the stretch racing. Jack Dennerlen outbroke the others and ran well, but was driving to the limit at the end to stall off Hickory Stick. The latter closed a gap and finished fast. Creel ran in behind Gold Note until making the turn out of the backstretch, where he rushed to the front and drew away into a commanding lead, but tired in the stretch and only won because Reid outrode Kennedy when it came to a finish. Cave Adsum moved up rapidly after entering the homestretch anil appeared to have the-winner beaten at the eighth post, but his rider made a bad finish, which lost the race. Gold Note ran a good race, but tired in the stretch. Light Wool quit after going six furlongs. Scratched 82910 Darknight. 100. Overweights Alineua. 2 pounds. Byzantine finished gamely In the racing on the flat and easily disposed of Essex II. The latter tired badly in the last fnrlong. Bilberry refused at the fifteenth jump and Glnsnnnv lost his rider at the fourth. McAfee pulled his mount over when going to the eighteenth and tried to carry Essex II. into the wing, for which Dr. Keith was disqualified and the race given to Byzantine. Stanley Fay. messed about on the first turn and crowded back, closed up steadily and moved up with a game challenge when straightened out in the stretcli. hut tired in the last few strides. The latter was much used in racing Gemmell into defeat and tired in the last sixteenth. Gemmell ran well and was hard ridden all the way. Bobbie Kean was crowded back on the turn out of the backstretch. Gypsy King quit and can do much better. The. winner was entered for 00: no bid.
