SHEEPSHEAD BAY GOSSIP. . Xew York. August 12. Superintendent Frank Clarke of the Coney Island Jockey Clubs course at Slieepsliead Hay is bending his energies .toward beautifying the splendid plant while racing is in progress at Saratoga Springs. A brick walk lias been recently laid on the lawn which divides the grandstand and paddock enclosure, and painters are putting tlio tinishing touches on the judges and timers stands. The main and training courses are in superb condition. Candidates for the Futurity and other races to bo run over this historic course will be tried and raced over a fast but absolutely safe track. The cushion could not be improved on as it is what turfmen would term a happy medium. The stable of largest nroiKirtions at the track is that of James R. Keene. and is composed entirely of yearlings, nearly all of which are Castleton-bred. Trainer Thomas Green, who has handled the juvenile division of the Keene string for a number of years, is again in charge of this branch of the stable this season. Rack in the !0s trainer Green saddled the horses which bore the Keene silks with considerable success. In 1S00 Green trained the tieet English-brod lilly. Rhodesia, when she defeated M. F. Dwyors Cleophus over the Rrighton Reach track. Slow galloping has been the order of training up to date, but in the autumn the youngsters will be given a chance to show their real wortli in trials. Upon these moves depend the selection of juveniles to carry the stable silks in stake events. It is needless to say that the colts and fillies in this collection are above the average. Special care was exercised when they wore picked out of a lot which numbered over lifty.
