BLUE BONNETS IS THRONGED YESTERDAYS PATRONAGE GREATEST IN HIS-TORY OF RACING IN MONTREAL. Tcrah, Neglected in Betting, Captures Handicap , Feature of Card Rain of Sunday Makes Going Slow and Brings About Withdrawals. Montreal, Que., September 0. There was a marked improvement in todays attendance over that of the opening day. Every nook and comer of the grandstand was occupied and the clubhouse sheltered many of MontrealH best people. The spacious lawns were taxed to their utmost in caring for the overflow. Cnotlicially. it was announced that the crowd exceeded any former gathering here. Speculation was brisk, and thirty-four layers were kept busy at top speed throughout the afternoon. Rain which fell yesterday left the going fair, though somewhat unsuitable for some of the racers that started today. The handicap, at a mile, had a high-class Held in its original form, but the withdrawal of Prince Ahmed, Green Seal and Martin Doyle left only Terah, Guy Fisher and Stanley Fay to contest for the purse. Guy Fisher and Stanley Fay absorbed most of the speculation indulged in on the race, but both were decisively licatcu by Terah. The latter, excellently ridden, trailed within striking distance of the pacemakers until approaching the stretch turn, where he saved much ground and passed into, the lead in a flash, to win going away in easy fashion. Guy Fisher was kept busy tor a time in disposing of Stanley Fay. but ultimately did and landed the place by live lengths. The steeplechase over the short course went to J. W. Colts Reginald. The horse made strenuous attempts to leave the course between the hedges, but was kept at his task. He fenced superbly the first round and showed dazzling speed, but after going over the eighth jump he began trying to go outside of the course and nearly succeeded iu bolting over the main fence after making the last jump. His rider, however, managed to get him under control during the short space that intervened before the finish. Harrington followed Reginald most closely most of the way, but the slippery going caused him to stumble at tlie twelfth jump and unseat his rider. This mishap enabled Braggadocio to land second place, with the exhausted Impertinence third. In the opening race, J. W. Schorr scored with Banives at prohibitive odds. II. G. Bedwells Right-easy continued her winning career bv landing the second race, in which she beat Gloriole in the closest finish of the afternoon. The St. James Stable uncovered- a good one in tlie maiden race in Starover. He was extensively supported and made a show of nine other youngsters-.
