NOTES OF THE TURF. The entry of Dutiful has been barred at Salt Lake City. Eight books are doing business at the Salt Lake City meeting. Frank Regan and Jack McGinnis expect to race at Juarez the coming winter. . , Jockey A. Thomas is under suspension at Salt Lake City for rough riding. Rocky OBrien is a horse of nervous temperament, notwithstanding his sturdincss. The easterners are showing a disposition to criticise jockey Butwells riding methods. Jockeys Henry and Shriuer. who were suspended at Ogden for rough riding, have been reinstated. John Stevens has arrived at Churchill Downs from Lexington with Tom Holland, Beatrice K. aud two other racers. Carroll Reid. of The Picket fame, has Third Rail in training at Churchill Downs, after a summers let-up following an attack of distemper. It is said that Prince Imperial hurt his back in his preliminary gallop for the race in which he made a poor showing as a favorite at Gravesend Wednesday. A colt by Sir Hercules, out of Ohio Belle, and a colt by Baunockburn. out of the famous race mare Schwalbe. are regarded by critical trainers as the pick of the collection. William Wallace has shipped his stable of ten horses from New York to Louisville, and John Madden will at once send to Hamburg Place everything he has save Naughty Boy. Ostend, victim of the night riders at Sheepshead Bay, is still ailing as ;i result of the episode, which is the reason lie was not sold with the rest of W. S. Houses horses Thursday. Eight two-year-olds by Sain. Bannockburn and Sir Hercules have been received by trainer Charles Casey at Churchill Downs from Woodlands Farm to augment Barney Schrelbers western stable. Emperor William, by Sain La Bella, is described as a ringer on a reduced model for both Jack Atkin and Deutsch-laud. The day Emperor William won his maiden race in Canada last year Barney Schrelber is credited with having refused an offer of 0,000 for him. Mr. Schreiber would be willing to part with Emperor I William for much less thau that amount now.
