JOCKEY NICOL DISCIPLINED LEADING RIDER FINED AND SUSPENDED FOR ROUGH WORK AT M0NCRETT. Dissatisfaction Over Failure of Officials to Award Race to Quagga by Disqualification of Yaraa. Jacksonville. Fla.. April 5. — R. L. Thomas sprinter. Flying Squirrel, scored another victory at Moncreif Park this afternoon. It was his second start at this meeting and he prevailed in impressive fashion over a band of useful three-year-olds. Ho was ridden by Dave Nieol. who also rode the two preceding winners. Nicol was to have remained here until Saturday to vide for the Thomas stable, but probably will leave for Baltimore tomorrow to join the Shaw stable. The change in Nicols plans came after the running of tin- second race, iu which he had tin- mount on Thomas Kusticana. When the break came in this race Nicol cut across from the outside and interfered yvith some of those close to the rail, for which he was fined 50 and suspended for one an»rk by the starter. If Nicols offense was bad. Wilsons in the closing dash was worse. Tin- latter rode Yama. Wheal was leading by three lengths entering the homestretch. In the final furlong, when, Quagga clos« d on him. Wilson pulled over and shut Quagga off at the sixteenth ix**t. forcing Canz to pull up and go to tno outside. Quagga rescinded with good courage when he got clear ami yvas gaining on the winner at she end. Can/, promptly entered the judgi-s stand after he weighed in to claim foul and was informed by the officials that they had noted the occurrence. Wilson was then- sent for. anil after a long talk yvith Ihe hid the official sign was hssnsnal without, any i-hange in the placing. The occurrence, to say tlie least, was far from pleasing to the twickers of Quagga. This, together yvith the defeat of the odds on choices. Jack Parker and Tom Mi-Crath. tended to make the aftenmons s|H rt unsatisfactory. There were several sales during the afternoon, among them Cold Dust, which yvas sold bv J. Blake to Mrs. M.
