FORT ERIE MEETING COMES TO CLOSE. Flying Footsteps, an Outsider in the Betting, Wins Stake Feature of Final Days Program. Buffalo. N. Y.. July 9. — The closing day of the Niagara Bating Associations first meeting attracted a bumper crowd to Fort Brie this afternoon, the attendance being up to that of the opening day. Secretary Maginn provided an eight-race program, with the Tort Brie Selling Stakes and a steeplechase as the restore*. Keen racial was Hie order and a majority of the finishes found the winners under hard drives, with heads and necks separating the first two in four instances. The result of the stake race was surprising, the winner turning up in Flying Footsteps, recently acquired by the claiming process by R. J. Mackenzie. Flying Footsteps was one of the outsiders in the hettlag, came from behind in the stretch anil in a driving finish with I.ady Irina got up in the last few strides to win by a neck. Pta ham. the favorite of the race, showed good speed for half a mile ami the* quit. The winner has certainly proved a proiitable investment for the Mackenzie stable, in whose colon she has won twice, ami has more than paid for herself.
