ENGLISH RACING IS THRIVING WELL. Two Brothers Score Important Successes on the Samo Day Over Tracks Far Apart— iyndin Wins. liontlon. Eng.. June 25. — Following Ascot good meetings at Newcastle. Newhury and Sandown have served to keep the followers ol racing husy and well tjafertalaed. At Newcastle the Northumberland Plate was a magnet that drew an enormous attendance. The "Pitmens Pethy." as it is -ailed, has long been itnniensclv popular with the north country people, but this year, for one reason or another. It was unusually appealing and the result was an attendance that probably was a record for Gosforth Park. The race was worthy of its patronage ami fell to the fast ami staying mare, Elizal etta, by a bead better than Bridge ot Earn, anil Venture was Japped on the pair. The Newbury Cup was decided at Ne rbnry the same dav. June 22. anil was won bv W. Hall Walke-s Royal Realm. Elizabetta belongs lo Reitl Walker. It thus befell that the big events in the days programs, mirth and south, went to brothers, and that the successful horses were by sires arlia are. or rather were, own brothers — Ro.wil Realm lioing a son of Persimmon anil Elizabetta a 4hMe4ler of Diamond Jubilee. Carrying the parallel loitlier it remains to remark that both winners Were home bred, whilst the sires, of course, were both reared by our late and lamented king. An incident of the racing at Newbury was the first success credited to a horse of James R. Keenes in England this year. Several of his horses ran unsuccessfully at Ascot, and it was reserved for Lyn-«Iin to break the lee for the stable. In imint of value the race was not much, betas; the oo All-Aired Plate. But it was made notable from the fact that Lymliu had a regular mob of horses to contend with and defeated thirty-six opiionents in good style. Lyntlin is a big i-olt with which little could be done last year. lie was left here in the hope that with growth and rilling out he might develop into ; horse capable of winning some of his many engagements in valuable events. lie is in the St. Lrffee at Pont aster and may be a starter. M. Jariel. the owner of the Courteilles Stud. Belgium, has sustained a severe loss through the death of Sis Koqae. oars brother to Rock Sand. San Roqnes loss w ill be a very serious one for M. Jariel. since the produce claiming ilesceut from the son of Sainfoin are mm than usually promising. Hamburg is about to celebrate the North German Derby, one f the most Important events on the German turf. Daritaefa recent engagement by 1he Messrs. Von Weinberg appears likely to result In a turn of link for a deserving stable which lias throw any hostages to fortune. The efforts of Imrllan would sace more have placed bis owners at the head of the list of winning owners had not Sunday witnessed the success oT the Royal Cifaditz Stud in the Grand Haass Prize, where Orient, whose running so astonished her friends in the Vienna Derbr. beat Fervor easily. Nevertheless. Fervor has enabled the Messrs. Von Weinberg to make a record as tivio having won the Silver Challenge Shield, which, must lie aecuied on three different Occasion* he-fore it ean be linally claimed. The lirst trophy accrued to them from the brackets gained respectively bv Prinz Hamlet. Somali anil Slaby. while the success of fervor, tollowhnjl, on thai of Festino anil Pels, neeounts for the second. Festa. the dam of Fels. Iestino anil Fervor, was a lucky purchase. She was bougjht through the excellent judgment of TJ. Von Uertses lor the North Cerman Breeders Association. She cost, anording to the accounts of the assoeiation. 95.238 and was sold at the Hoppe-garten auction for ,500 to the Walilfried Stud. She has been a wonderful scqajisitlon ami her prod-ace, inelutling the colt Salute, which Tan in England. jjVsaee ami Germane, has brought in norac thing like 338.7241. so that Festa has exceeded the pmtils secured lor her offspring by the famous Perdita. Geprjce MoekmeB. the Newmarket trainer, was married recently to Miss Lily Ill main, third datnrh-tcr of Koberl P Anson. Blackweil was formerly master ol the Lagrange House stables, but Ibis season he removed to Ifoultpn Paddocks, where he look over charge of Sir Ernest assets horses. P.lack- wtii has daring his career trained many Important Winners, ami with Bock Sand he won the coveted "triple crown* in 1903. Several minor triumphs were achieved by t lie American horses in the course of the past weeks racing. Charles Carrolls i:oo l illy. Queen TIL won the Rennet Plate at Newbury, and his colt. Torch-hesrer. the Apprentices Plate at the same meeting. Mr. Whitneys two-year old gelding:. Baity sand, won tin SVirliill Plate at Noweastle. lint his Speedy three-Mar old. New Castle, was aaezacetedly beaten by Merest le in the valuable Perkins Memorial Plate, at a mile, for which lie was a pronounced favorite. However. Mereiilio is a capital race horse, so New Castle was not disgraced. A record attendance was registered at Antenll on Sunday. June i!». tin- arcaakm of the Grand Stee-Bieehase. The takings at the gate are gives ms ftaft. ■Pm 39, and tie- turnover at the mutuels as 05,317. Gentlemens cards for the paddock ami stamls numbered s.s to and ladles B.544. while 1.506 patronised tlie side stand and 84.882 paid for admission to the heath. Another landmark ol obi time racing so dear to sportsmen in Prance has been removed through the seats of Henry Gibson, who was the senior member of that group ot trainers who came out in the early days of racing, headed by the Messrs. Jennings and Carter. and have perpetuated racing tradition through their children. Gibson came out very yonug to France and rode as a jot key. axing himself at Chsntllly. lie trained for Count Dan before the war. but was perhaps more successful for the Barons Scilliere. lor whom he trained for BMny years. fit-was sn adept in patching up cripples ami won many b a giHMi race with a horse tew thought worth keeping in training. When training for Baron Seilliere he Canard a sensation by winning the Omnium with Jonieiir. and bis Bl was connected a"ain with the back-end handicap when he sent out Roi-de-ln-Mon-tagne. He had the cars of some good bones, snch as Fripoo, Fil-cn-Quatro. Jen DC Brunette ant! others. Certain modldca t lone have been made necessary in the Il l in . rules of raefag ow ing to the different strikes which have been threatened, ami in fa tore the So lete Bportlve d*43acont aavment reserves to Itself tit- right of determinlns? the course over whlsh •ert.iin t.ues shall be decided even when the track has been s •eelticd in the eond I Ions of he program. This ietidilicati.il heean e necessary alter the action brought bv an owner, when the overflow of the Seine necessitated a chajnee of venue From Mainous-Laflitte to Bugtrien, in seeking to hold the society liable for the stakes. The case went in favor of the defendants, but it is proposed formally to acquire the right to run the leading races at Paris in lieu of Chantilly should there he any trouble with the railway nun such as that which diminished the receipts at the. gate on tl ceasion of the Chantilly Derby. A very large sum of money 1ms been refused for Manwolt. the winner of the Seaton Pelaval Plate at Newcastle and beyond all doubt in this ldg. commanding youngster J. Scott owns the smartest two-year-old that has so far been stripped in the north. A well-known south-country owner was willing to pay ont a big figure for him. Ascot racing, with its great array of rich stakes, has greatly altered the table of winning sires and brought Count Schotnberg. John OOannt, Santoi, Tredcnnls, Snndridge, Hamburg, Wlldfowler ami lal- Hnalr into the list. Cyllcne is still the leader and the list of sires with progeny having won over ,-POo is now: Sire. Winrs. Wootton. Not that he has lacked paironage. for that has been freely accorded, but he lias experienced a tantalizing series of seconds ami thirds -especially seconds — ami only has live successes to show as the result ol his riding this week and last. His ill luck will scarcely continue for bang, home ear. ami the eighth place he at present tills in the winning list may he regarded as likely to be improved BjMO very shortly. Maher. tlu- young jockeys immediate rival for so long, has made no addition to the score of forty-three lie held sevea davs ago, and Trigg is rapidly getting wHhin hail of him, a margin of only fifteen now separating the pair. Trigtr has been riding in rule form lately, and his victories in two of the important handicaps at Ascot must nave given him glial encouragement, especially as until the present year he had not been RTSl past the jiost at the royal meeting. William Griggs and HlggS tie for third position with twenty-four, closely followed by Saxby. and tin five mentioned are the only riders who have had twenty winning mounts or over this season.
