DERBY ELIGIBLES RACE AT JUAREZ. Undo Ben, Bettic Sue and Jim Easey Figure in Close Finish in Handicap Contest. El Paso, Tex.. March 29. As the meeting draws to a close, the attendance at Terrazas Park appears to increase daily. The number of patrons that turned out today was far iu excess of the ordinary Wednesday crowd. The fourth race of the card, a handicap at a mile, served as a tryout for Derby eligibles. Uncle Ben. Bettie Sue and Jim Bascy finished close together in the order named. Uncle Ben. the winner and the hope of the Newman stable, ran an excellent race, although hardly Impressive enough to warrant the belief that he will be able to defeat Round the World in the Derby, which filly is generally considered to have the much-coveted prize at her merey. Despite the success of but one of the public choices, the ring had another bad day, as Execute. Pretty Soon and Court Lady each attracted the heaviest backing in their respective races. Jim Bascy was the only one of the supposed good things to disappoint. Miss Tierney. after finishing first in the opening race, was disqualified for interfering with Pretty Soou and Big Brave and was placed last. The interference occurred in the final stages of the race when she bore over on Big Brave and knocked him nearly to his knees, forcing Jockey McGee to pull up his mount. Jockey Nolan, who rode Miss Tierney, was suspended by the board of stewards for the remainder of the meeting for his rough riding tactics, that body considering Ills con-duet in the race as entirely unwarranted. Jockey T. Rice, for unruly actions at, the barrier on Bettie Sue iu the fourth race, was suspended for tlie rest of the meeting by starter Cassidy.
