PENSACOLA VENTURE AROUSES OPPOSITION. Pcnsacola, Fla., March 29. There were a number of additional arrivals today of horsemen ami others con- nccted with the racing which begins here on Friday next. The number of horses already here total 175, and with expected additions from Moncrief Park at the close of that meeting, there will be at least 225 racers available to till the daily cards during the fifteen days that the meeting will continue. During the last few days some opposition to the racing has developed among a few of the local merchants. They have no specific grievance, hut their influence was sufficient to bring about the calling of a meet ing of Business League members to discuss possible steps to prevent the racing. The meeting is announced for tonight, but few are taking tlie matter seriously and the management announces that they will open according to schedule. The county prose-cutoriand the sheriff are friendly towards the racing venture and the local press also seem to be In favor of the present term of racing at least. There is a possibility of a scarcity of jockeys unless some riders, get here from Jacksonville. The rule of only eight starters to each race will be strictly enforced. Todays arrivals include Messrs. Colby and Smith, who are interested in tlie betting ring management.
