" WHITNEY HORSES BEATEN AT YORK. London, Eng., August 31. At York today the Harewood Handicap of 500 sovereigns, at five furlongs, was won by Stolen Kiss, witli Great Surprise second and II. P. Whitneys filly Matinee third. 1ord Derbys chestnut colt. Stedfast, by Chaucer Be True won the Great Yorkshire Stakes of 1,250 sovereigns, for three-year-olds, at a mile and a half, with Pietri finishing second and Athelstan third. The Gimcrack Stakes of 1,000 sovereigns for two-year-olds at three-quarters of a mile, was won by Sir E. Cassels bay colt Cylgad, by Cyllene Gadfly, E. Huttons bay colt Lomond, by Desmond Lowland Aggie, finishing second and n. P. Whitneys chestnut colt Flanders, by Burgomaster Fiesole, third. Nine started.
