DESIRABLE YEARLINGS BRING SATISFACTORY PRICES : Lexington, Ky., September 19. The sale of thoroughbred yearlings under the auspices of the Kentucky Sales Company, George A. Bain auctioneer, began last night in Tattersalls with a good attendance, though it was raining heavily when the auction opened. For the choicest lots the bidding was spirited, but for the ordinary individuals there was little demand. The offerings totaled sixty-four head, and brought an aggregate of 2,010. an average of 97. This was far below expectations. The top price was ,300, paid by J. W. May, bidding for Frederick Johnson, a Now York millionaire, for the brother to Tommie Thompson and half-brother to John Smulski and Henry McDaniel. This is one of the grandest-looking colts in Kentucky. He will lie broken and trained by J. W. May. Henry McDaniel. trainer of the It. L. Thomas stable, bought the brother to Joe Knight and Blue Mouse for . He also paid 1911.sh00 for the half-brother to Tom Dolan. The only foreign buyers at the ringside were M. A. Silvers, of Valparaiso. Chile, and Andrew Robinson, of Australia. Mr. Silvers bought live head for export and got a bargain in the Cesarion Ora Bailey filly. Clay ot Runny-niede Stud, and those of Clay Bros., took place at Raceland Stud this morning under the management of the Kentucky Sales Company. Forty-three head sold for 5,505, an average of 00. The sale was well attended and bidding on the best yearlings was prompt and spirited. Henry McDaniel, acting presumably for R. L. Thomas, secured the pick of the lot in a half-sister to Running Water for ,100, while John S. Ward secured an excellent looking colt by Star Shoot Sardine for ,500. All breeders and trainers of the blue grass region were ou hand and several from other states, including II. T. Oxnard, C. J. Qillnn, A. B. Hancock, Peter Wim-mer. John Walters and Fred Johnson. The sale, considering present conditions, was regarded as satisfactory in its results.
