STATUS OF JAMESTOWN CASE. Norfolk. Va., September 10. The mandamus proceedings instituted by Attorney -General Williams, of Virginia, at the instigation of Governor Mann, against the Jamestown Jockey Club for the revocation of its charter, have been continued until the fourth Monday in October. The continuance was granted yesterday by Judge B. I. White in the City Circuit Court and means that the fall meeting of the club, which opens November 2, will not be interfered with. When tnc case is called next month a date will be set for hearing it on its merits. It is highly probable that it will not be determined this year, and the fall meeting at the Jamestown track will be fiver and forgotten before a decision is rendered. The mandamus proceedings were brought by the attorney-general on the grounds that bookniaking was permitted on the track during the spring meeting and. as a consequence, he holds that the charter of the association should lie revoked. Even if the court sustains the contention of the state, it is almost certain that racing at the Jamestown track will continue. -The name of the track probably will be chauged anil it will be operated bv an individual Instead of a corporation, which will not necessitate the obtaining of a charter from the state.
