COMES FROM FAMILY OF HORSEMEN. Shelby West, who trains the stable of L. P. Doer-hoofer, is the fifth generation of successful horsemen in the West family. Ills great-great-grandfather. James Lyne West, at one time owned the two celebrated mares, Maria West and Black Sophia. to which many of the star turf performers of today trace. Shelby Wests great-grandfather, Preston West, was the first secretary of the Lexington Kilting Association, and bis grandfather, Orville O. West, was a successful trainer, dying last year at an advanced age. His father. P. M. West, is a well-known horseman and for thirty years has been a successful trainer of horses. James Lyne West.
