NOTES OF THE TURF. L. P. Docrhoefer now owns the yearling brother to the sensational A. J. Small. H. P. Whitneys Martha II. colt ran second in the Hopeful Stakes at Newmarket in England Wednesday. Mickey Miles is riding successfully in Austria-Hungary for M. Eygedi, with whose stable he has been connected for seven years. Donau. Cherryola, Elizabethan, Arcite, Galliota, Melton Street, Bouncing Lass, Thistle Belle, Frosty Lancaster, Bob Co. and Hanbridge are on starter OassldyB schooling list at Churchill Downs. Raymond, Culvert, Raquette and Scotch Bonnet, which raced at Trenton, have been returned to the Belmont quarters at Belmont Park. Raquette is in poor condition as the result of a fall at Trenton. W. H. Shadley is still at his . post as the mail man at the track at Churchill Downs. Mr. Shadley is one of the veterans of racing aud can recall the days when racing was in its. infancy at the Downs. "Johnny" Osborne, the veteran English trainer and former jockey, saw Flying Dutchman win the St. Leger In 1840 and has seen the running of every St. Leger since. He also rode two St. Leger winners when in his prime as a jockey. W. B. Mitchell, an Alberta owner who raced several good horses on the Canadian circuit last season, has been trying to buy some horses at Toronto for .northwest racing, but fluds owners putting as high a value on their property . as ever. Calgary is preparing for a first-class meeting of live days next summer.
