LOUISYILLE CAED RIDDLED CHANGED TRACK CONDITIONS LEAD TO DECLARING OFF ONE RACE. Attendance and Volume of Speculation Fell Off as Compared with Previous Days Scmprolus Carries Carman Colors to Victory in Handicap. Louisville, Ky.. September 29. Changed track conditions resulted in the riddling of todays card and marred the racing considerably. The original third race was declared on on account of numerous withdrawals. A three-quarter-mile selling race was substituted, and was contested by the largest Held of the afternoon. There was also a greatly reduced attendance as compared with former days, and speculation fell off correspondingly. The racing was spirited and aroused keen interest. The three-Uiartcr-inilo handicap, for a purse of . engaged inly three starters, and was won by Semprolus. from the It. F. Carman stable. He haa to be shaken up to outstay Raleigh 1. D.. while Little Father was a distant trailer. The latter seemed to have Iteen subjected to considerable interference from both the. other starters, but his rider failed to make a protest. In the second race Doncaster was backed to the virtual exclusion of the other starters, but made a dismal showing and failed to place. Irish Kid took the purse, with Gold Oak and Dr. Burch Eecond and third. The opening race served to introduce Gates, a tirst-time starter, owned by II. K. Knapp. He won impressively, but came out of the race in bad condition, having spread a foot. Pierre Dumas, owned by .Tames Gritiin, was another first-time starter, and performed creditably by taking third. Balronia was best of the band of cheap platers that furnished the contest in the substitute race, and wore down Duuuesne in the stretcli to win handily. Colonel Cook found conditions exactly to his liking in the fifth race, and beat Tourist and Yanker. The sendoff in this race was ragged. Tourist and Yanker. both suffering. The closing dash furnished the best finish of the afternoon, when lialdemau beat Tom Bigbee a neck and the same margin separated the latter from Sir Cleges. Eddie Graney, the heavily backed favorite, showed a poor iKrformanec. Francis J. Pons today shipped seven of his horses to Laurel, Md., for the racing which begins there, on Monday next. Three horses owned by A, F. Schulte; including Zienap and King Olympian, were also shipped to the new Maryland course this afternoon. With the Schulte consignment went H. G. Dedwclls Prince Ahmed. He will be a starter in the Inaugural Handicap, and will be looked after by trainer It. Brooks. Joseph Ycagcr was among todays visitors. It is the first time he has been a visitor to any of the courses in this locality since his trouble at Windsor, Ont. He will remain for the rest of the meeting. The program books for next week Were distributed to horsemen today. Trainer AV. II. Karrick states that Wyandots injury yesterday was more serious than at first expeeted, and that the horse will be out of training for the rest of the year. Milton B. will be offered for sale by auction at Churchill Downs on Friday, October !. The sale is to dissolve a partnership in the colt. Wayne Joplins Elizabethan was severely injured tliis morning and will be out of training for some time. It is practically certain that Aylmer will represent John W. Schorr in the four-mile Kentucky Endurance .Stakes to be run Saturday. October 7. Other positive starters in the race include Nadzu, Markie M., Royal Report, Fireman and Messenger Boy. According to report Governor Cray will not be raced again tins year. A suspicious leg is responsible for a let-up in his training. It. F. Carmans good three-year-old. Meridian, was worked a mile between races this afternoon and ran the distance handily in 1:45. No fast work was attempted this morning and few horses were on the track as it rained steadily until a ate hour.
