WOODBINE TRACK AGAIN DELUGED, Michael Angclo Wins Rothschild Cup Andy Chis-holm and Vilhalla Score in Chases. Toronto, Ont., September 29. Mud runners were again to the fore at Woodbine this afternoon. Just when promises of fast going were held out, rain again set in and todays races were run over a heavy track. The weather was certainly unpropi-tious for outdoor sport, dark and heavy clouds hanging over the course all afternoon, threatening at any moment to unload a downpour. Under the conditions the attendance was excellent. That the public had a good time on the mud-running ability of the horses was shown by the results, five favorites and two well-backed second choices winning. Two steeplechases and the Rothschild Cup were provided as attractions. The Novice Chase, which was over the mile and a half course, was for three-years old, while the Ringwood Chase was over the two-mile course. The former resulted in an easy victory for Woods Stocktons Andy Chisholm, which, by the way. has developed into a really good steeplechaser. William Garth, his trainer, considers him the best three-year-old juniper he ever developed. Vilhalla made a runaway affair of the Ringwood. winning off by herself. Waterway, which was making his first effort iu some months, met with a mishap at the seventh jump, where he fell heavily. Fortunately neither rider nor horse was hurt. In the Novice Chase, Bartlett MeLennahs entry. Annum, after jumping well and racing under restarint to the tenth fence, fell, and was caught and remounted by F. Williams, but again fell at the eleventh jump. A stable lad finally mounted th colt, and ho just did manage to finish within the five minutes time limit, having just five seconds to spare. This gave him third money. Joseph E. Seagram sent .two horses to the post in the Rothschild Cup, Rockville and the imported filly, Kate Kittlcbcrry. Rockville,s well-known liking for the going was responsible for the strong support accorded the entry. The son of Rockton simply romped in the lead for six furlongs, but In the stretch drive he collapsed, and Michael Angelo found no trouble in passing him, to win by half a dozen lengths. August Belmonts Lucky Lass was the other favorite that failed to make good. Like Rockville, she showed keen speed in the early stages, but tired badly at the end. In the. third race, which was won by Buekhorn. the second choice, Bwana Tunibo, took a tumble after they had gone the first quarter. There appeared to be some bumping at the half mile post and Bwana Tunibo went down in a heap. Guy Burns, who had the mount, came out of the mixup with several cuts on his head and was forced to .cancel his remaining engagements during the afternoon. " , - Jockey Schuttlngcr, a protege of Clint De Witts, was In good form, riding three winners. Joseph McLennan, who will act as racing secretary at Laurel, left for the - new Maryland track this morning. Several owners shipped to Laurel this afternoon, among them Harry Shannon, Capt. P. M. Walker and P. S. P. Randolph. Jockey Byrne accompanied the Walker stable, which accounted for his absence from the saddle this afternoon. Woodford Clay will leave tomorrow for Laurel with Buekhorn and Ocean Bound. It is his intention to send Ocean Bound to the post iu the Inaugural Handicap on the opening day. At a meeting of the Canadian Hunts Association held this morning. Hume Blake was elected president and Bert Holland secretary. Previous to. the races a sale of horses belonging to Mrs. L. A.
