MILLER LAW MAY BE AMENDED. It is pitiful to.fiud men of position willing, if not to break the letter of the law, at least to violate the spirit. People generally are of a generous disposition,, and where they see a man of energy pushing things along according to his lights they are liberal enough to overlook minor shortcomings and to give him credit for good intentions. When, however, he egregiously fails to recognize the proprieties then the public usually utilizes a long memory. Already we hear that an amendment to the act is to be asked for at the nex session of Parliament that will make it plain that only fourteen days running races can take place over any one trac, and providing that for each of the seven days a. license must be secured from the recognized Provincial authorities. If the whole subject of racing should thus be opened up again, aud further curtailment or drastic regulations result, a large measure of blame will have to be given to the Toronto Driving Club and to the regrettable lack of sportsmanship that has marked its action on this particular occasion.
